Notes on a Dual-Mode Airport Extreme Network
Summary: These are followup notes from my attempts to setup a dual-mode Airport Extreme Network. This started at the Apple Discussion Forum for Airport Extreme but since forums have a way of disappearing over time, I wanted to preserve this somewhere else.

The Problem

I have an AppleTV which is 802.11n-capable. It gets media from my iMac which is 802.11n-capable.

Unfortunately I have these other non-802.11n-capable devices: iPhone, MacBook, and a Powerbook. [Ed: just to clarify, all current MacBooks are 802.11n-capable, but when I wrote this I was using a 1st generation MacBook which was neither capable nor upgradable.]

Which means I was getting very little of the 802.11n-goodness. When I was growing up, ‘Does Not Work Up To H”

However, there are still some attributes that are not so well-known; also, CSS3 offers us new possibilities and tools that need to be understood, learned and then applied in the right context to the right effect.

In this round-up we present fresh useful articles about less-known CSS 2.1 and CSS3 properties as well as an overview of recently published CSS techniques, tools and tips for designers and web-developers. I quit

Last wednesday was my last day as lead singer from Zabatista. I’m no longer part of the band. It has nothing to do with the other guys in the band, they are all really nice guys which are all very talented. As Zabatista we have played together for 5 to 6 years which is a pretty long time. Before Zabatista we have played in the band Vurio for a couple of years.
We’ve had lots of fun rehearsing and performing on various occasions.

I had to quit because I wasn’t enjoying it anymore and it put a huge amount of stress on me.
This decision has  taken me quite some time but now I decided to follow through.

So now the band will be on a search for a new lead vocalist. So if you’re into rock music and live in the Netherlands and want to rehearse in the Utrecht regio then please consider the band Zabatista and go check out their site.  If you’re into songwriting and want to have a considerable amount of input into the songs then don’t hesitate.

For me I will focus on learning to play the guitar and sing along with acoustic sessions just for the fun of it. And hell no, I won’t stop singing. I wish the guys from Zabatista all the best and I will continue to see them because they’re all friends of mine. I just want them to get a real nice new singer.

And as far as the future goes, maybe we’ll perform again together sometime on a stage somewhere.

Kind regards,

Jöran

The Problem with Passwords

The Problem with Passwords: “Abandoning password masking as Jakob Nielsen suggests could present serious problems, including undermining a user’s trust by failing to meet a basic expectation. But with design patterns gleaned from offline applications, plus a dash of JavaScript, we can provide feedback and reduce password errors without compromising the basic user experience or losing our visitors’ trust.”
